Film Distribution

1.       1.What is meant by the term film distribution?
Film distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience. This is normally the task of a professional film distributor, who would determine the marketing strategy for the film.

2. What does a film distributor do?
The distributor develops a release strategy, considers realise date and takes delivery of a master print of the finished film and presents it to the film exhibitors. From there they will negotiate agreements to show it in cinemas. The last step is that they create a ‘want to see’ buzz around the target audience and then finally launch the film.

3. How does reach relate to film distribution?

This is when the film distributors have to reach their audience in order for the film to be successful. To be successful they need to encourage their audience to go to the cinema to maximise the audience.

4.      4. What is meant by the distribution plan?
This is the plan that ensures that the film goes to the right places for sale. This is after the film has been released in the cinema and then goes to DVD’s

5.       5. What is meant by the marketing plan?
The marketing objective is to create visibility, raise awareness and engage interest.

6.       6. What is the difference between advertising, publicity and promotion?
Word of mouth can be a very powerful way to get people to see a film, one bad word about it and it could have a massive impact of the amount of people who see it, especially if the film is hyped up a lot and then doesn’t reach the expectations.
